corn {harvest & fancy fixins'}

With all the corn growin' at its peak here in these parts,
it reminded me of when we were in
China (Luoyang) during their harvest last year.

As you can see,
their harvesting methods are a tad different from ours.

They would take all the corn off the cob and lay it
out in the sun to dry.

It was pretty fascinating.

Macy loves corn.

But she puts sugar on it.

And thinks we are totally weird for putting butter and salt
on ours.

Our differences make us crack up at each other at times.

Yes, even our corn oddities make us laugh.

Laughing is good.

So what kind of fancy fixins' do YOU put on your corn?

Nothing, if it is good old Olathe sweet corn. You dont need anything with that good corn!

I love how they tote everything around on bikes over there. : ) And I love it that you guys can laugh with each other in a good way. I've been thinking about and praying for Macy!

Great photo. That cyclist must have amazing calves...

We too put butter and salt on ours but the corn in Israel can't really compare to good fresh-picked American corn, the growing conditions just aren't quite right.

As for corn oddities, here's one - Israelis (mainly kids) choose corn as a favorite pizza topping! One trip to the States my son kept trying to order corn on his pizza and they kept looking at him like he had three heads LOL. He finally gave up.

Sugar, really? When it's sweet on its own, I don't put a thing and enjoy!!

I like butter on my corn, sometimes salt as well. My dad, a fellow mid westerner often puts salt on his watermelon. I like to put sugar on my strawberries....

I guess we all have our "things".....

Well, being from Texas, you got to have A LOT OF BUTTER AND SALT and some pepper. Never heard of the sugar thing.
Those pictures are great!

Those bikes, we've seen everything on those when we were there. As for corn, it's butter and a bit of salt for us. We live only 30 minutes from Montreal and our backyard is corn. I simply love the sound of the wind in the corn when we are in the pool. Summer is great! Enjoy.

Funny-- when we were seeing the Pandas in BJ, kids were eating corn like it was a huge treat.
A lady was out front with a big pot on a burner with a little gas tank to boil the water, then whe was selling it. This was at 9am.....kindof like the baked beans at breakfast.

I'm pretty sure my granny put sugar in when she was "putting up corn" (freezing it). She would scrape everything off the cob & the next year we had yummy, almost creamstyle corn.

Butter and salt...mmmm...I LOVE corn. Might try Macy's way, though. Ya never know...it might be really yummy. :)

The years that we have sweet corn come up (2 plantings & zilch...nada) we pretty much live off sweet corn with butter & salt and also salted garden tomatoes. This year we'll be venturing out of the fields to buy (gasp) our sweet corn. My hubby can grow over 1000 acres of field corn but the 5 rows of sweet corn he planted (twice - I'm just sayin) not so much :(
